Meet the 2022 Northwell Health NYC Marathon Team

Northwell Health is proud to be an official charity partner of the 2022 TCS New York City Marathon. As part of our employee giving programTeam Northwell has raised more than $25,000 to support Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health, one of the critical focus areas of our Outpacing the Impossible campaign.

Donor support for behavioral health will allow us to create a unified center of excellence, and train and recruit professionals with expertise in pediatric behavioral health and research.

Meet some members of Team Northwell who are making a difference in the lives of our patients one mile at a time. You can help cheer them on to the finish line by making a gift to support Team Northwell before Sunday’s race!

David Allinger

David Allinger ran with Team Northwell in 2021 and had a great experience. He didn’t want to miss the opportunity to run again and raise funds for pediatric and adolescent behavioral health to support the communities we serve.

quotation mark I believe Northwell has given so much to me professionally and personally, that I find it an incredibly worthy cause to be able to do something to help Northwell as we continue to help the communities we serve.

Kevin Bock, MD

This is Dr. Kevin Bock’s third time running the New York City Marathon while raising funds for his patients in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Cohen Children’s Medical Center. But this year is different. Kevin is running with a new knee after undergoing a total knee replacement last year.

quotation mark This year, I will run the NYC Marathon with a new perspective: one shaped not only by injury and recovery, but also by focus and hope. While my journey pales in comparison to the challenges my patients experience, I run this year with the understanding that it is not the falling down in injury that defines us, but rather the will to stand back up time and time again.
Kevin Bock

Carolyn and Chris Boukas

For Chris and his wife Carolyn, running the New York City Marathon was always on their bucket list. They understand the importance of living a healthy lifestyle and setting a positive example for their four children. After challenging each other to run a 5K race, they worked their way up to train for their first marathon. They’re excited to run with Team Northwell and make a positive impact on their community.

quotation mark Northwell has provided us many opportunities during our careers. A major focus of the organization is wellness, and it’s something we both value. It’s an honor and privilege to run with Team Northwell and help advance the mission of the organization.

Anna Costakis

As a mom of three children and a division director for Zucker Hillside Hospital, one of Northwell’s nationally recognized behavioral health centers, Anna Costakis knows the importance of providing high-quality care to children and young adults across all socioeconomic groups.

quotation mark The best part of my role is the amazing teamwork of the Zucker Hillside and adult ambulatory psychiatry family. Our team provides wonderful care that I’m so proud to represent!

Michael Dwyer

Michael Dwyer joined team Northwell to help raise funds and awareness around pediatric behavioral health while running his first marathon.

quotation mark I have made Northwell my home for most of my career, and my whole family has benefited from the care provided at our facilities. Any small efforts I can make to help raise funds and awareness around pediatric behavioral health makes it all worthwhile.
Michael Dwyer

Karen Friedman, MD

This is Dr. Karen Friedman’s second time running the NYC Marathon for Team Northwell, and she wanted to experience the outpouring of support and the 26.2-mile party again while fundraising.

quotation mark Northwell has provided me with so many opportunities to grow as a clinician, educator and leader that I wanted to give back. At the end of the day, everything we do is about our patients and community.
Karen Friedman, MD
quotation mark This year will be my 5th NYC Marathon and it has been my goal to give every one of them meaning by raising funds for a specific cause supporting the Northwell Foundation. The one I’m running for this year is likely the most important one yet, supporting Northwell Health’s Pediatric and Adolescent Behavioral Health initiatives. These past few years have been incredibly difficult as children and teens faced school closings, social isolation, missed milestones – with many having a difficult time coping. They need our help and I couldn’t think of a better cause to support.

Christian Velez

The NYC Marathon is Christian’s first road marathon, and he is excited to be running it in the great city of New York while supporting Cohen Children’s Medical Center and Northwell’s Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health Initiatives.

quotation mark I''m running as an advocate for cardiovascular and metabolic health. I truly believe in the importance of exercise and leading a healthy lifestyle. As healthcare professionals, we do our best in becoming healthy role models for our patients.
