Scott and Debby Rechler

In the rapidly evolving fields of medicine and science, the role of technology is paramount in tackling key questions concerning health and longevity.

Thanks to support by Scott and Debby Rechler, Northwell Health continues to lead the way as pioneers in shaping healthier futures. Through their philanthropy and leadership, Scott and Debby have championed Northwell’s mission to improve the health of the communities we serve by supporting research initiatives.

Their latest contribution, a generous $10 million gift, will establish the Scott and Debby Rechler Center for Health Outcomes and Artificial Intelligence. It will also create the endowed Scott and Debby Rechler Professor of Health Outcomes within the Institute of Health System Science at the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research, reinforcing the Rechlers’ belief in the power of innovative technology to improve the delivery of health care. Their gift will support the development of large-scale data models and leverage the utilization of leading-edge artificial intelligence (AI) tools to identify and address healthcare disparities and patient risk factors to ultimately improve care.

Previously, the Rechlers made a donation of $1.5 million in 2016 to the Feinstein Institutes to support the execution of several pivotal initiatives aligned with the organization’s strategic growth plan and Institute of Bioelectronic Medicine.

quotation mark For too long, our country’s healthcare system has been focused on reacting to illness rather than taking steps to proactively prevent illness. Through the use of data, we can better identify issues early on and drive healthcare outcomes before they become larger problems.

His many contributions to Northwell include his role as co-chair of the Board of Directors of the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research and as a member of Northwell’s Board of Trustees. Additionally, Scott serves as co-chair of Northwell’s Campaign Executive Committee for Outpacing the Impossible, a comprehensive $1.4 billion fundraising effort to accelerate research and endowments, improve hospitals and clinical programs and advance care where the need is greatest across our communities. His leadership extends to his service on the Board of Directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. He previously served on the Board of Commissioners for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey as well as on the Board of the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

She has also been recognized for her work with the Association for Children with Down Syndrome, the Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club and the National Eating Disorder Association.

The Rechlers’ leadership, service and philanthropic endeavors all reflect one unifying commitment: building and sustaining healthier communities. Their generous support of Northwell and the Feinstein Institutes will allow our researchers and clinicians to propose innovative solutions to pressing societal challenges such as health disparities, escalating costs and healthcare access and delivery, particularly for those living in underserved and marginalized communities.

As the largest provider of health care in New York with the most ethnically and  socioeconomically diverse communities in the country, Northwell is poised to use the Rechlers’ gift to inspire positive, lasting change in medicine and beyond.
