Igniting hope for college students in crisis

When she needed support, Richelle experienced what kindhearted care feels like and found hope as a patient at Northwell.

She found a guiding light in her care team at Zucker Hillside Hospital's Behavioral Health College Partnership (BHCP), which works with nearly 100 colleges and universities across New York to address unique behavioral health issues impacting undergraduate and graduate students. BHCP provides state-of-the-art, evidence-based evaluation and treatment for psychiatric crises and their aftermath, and addresses diverse challenges ranging from adjustment problems to major disorders that often emerge during the transition to college life.

With philanthropic support, Northwell is also developing a center of excellence geared specifically to children and adolescents that is fully integrated with Zucker Hillside Hospital and Cohen Children’s Medical Center as Long Island's #1 children’s hospital. We recognize there is a severe nationwide shortage of child and adolescent psychiatrists and a lack of pediatric behavioral health research, and our center will serve as a research hub and teaching facility for the next generation of behavioral health professionals.

Philanthropy has the power to extend care to all corners of our community. With your help, we can elevate awareness of the mental health crisis for young people like Richelle and create more pathways for support.

If you or someone you know is struggling, call the National Suicide Prevention Hotline at (800) 273-8255 for 24/7 support or call 911 immediately.
