Twin brothers provide support for their local hospital

Howard and Warren Kleet were a twin surprise to their parents, Maxwell and Hortense Kleet, in 1940. Their birth began the brothers’ lifelong connection to Huntington Hospital.

Growing up in the community — and with the hospital

Maxwell Kleet founded Kleet Lumber in Huntington in 1946. While building the family business, he and Hortense raised their twin boys in the village of Huntington. The business is now in the hands of Howard and Warren, who have also raised their own families in Huntington.

The hospital has seen tremendous growth since the twins’ birth, including eight physical expansions and countless program improvements. It is one of the top-ranked community hospitals in New York State.

The brothers recognize the value of Huntington Hospital to the community and its role as an emblem of local identity. It is one of the institutions that makes Huntington such a wonderful place to live.

Supporting the hospital that supports them

Almost 80 years after their birth, the brothers honored their late parents with a philanthropic gift toward the expanded Emergency Department at Huntington Hospital.

Howard and Warren previously donated to support their hospital. But in the past year, having a world-class facility in their home community became more personal. Each brother needed inpatient care. And Huntington Hospital met their individual needs. The brothers are back to work and well again.

“It’s wonderful to see how far the hospital has come and the way it serves the community,” says Warren.

“Having been raised in Huntington, I have witnessed firsthand the critical role that Huntington Hospital plays in our surrounding neighborhoods, as well as on Long Island,” says Howard. “The hospital has always been there for us, and my brother and I are proud to make a gift to honor our parents and support this vital institution.”
