A hospital builds on its legacy of holistic community care

A child in need of Christmas presents. An uninsured woman fearing the cost of treatment. A boy with autism who cannot speak.

Glen Cove Hospital’s Family Medicine Center goes beyond the exam room to provide compassionate care and improve the well-being of patients.

Providing proactive holistic health care

Thoughtful, personalized health care revolves around patients and their needs, regardless of their ages or ethnicities. In keeping with the history of Glen Cove Hospital’s care for the community, the Family Medicine Center offers primary care, prenatal and pediatric care, behavioral health services, immunizations, dental care and sexual health services.

In the process, 21 physicians a year receive extensive training in comprehensive family medicine.

By offering proactive care, unnecessary medical treatment — such as repeated emergency department visits, hospitalizations and procedures — are reduced.

“Whether patients need assistance navigating the healthcare system or translating information from English to Spanish, we’re here to help,” says Dr. Barbara Keber, chair of Family Medicine at Glen Cove Hospital.

Crafting a new model of care that emphasizes outpatient treatment

Glen Cove Hospital has been serving its neighboring communities with competence and compassion for more than 90 years – a remarkable and proud history.

To build on that legacy, the hospital is placing a greater emphasis on outpatient, community-based and home-based services while maintaining inpatient beds for both medical and surgical patients, along with an intensive care unit for patients requiring critical care and the Emergency Department. A Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) allows the hospital to extend the period of observation and treatment for patients seeking emergency care and caters to the unique needs of frail geriatric patients.

Caring for local residents at their most critical time of need while also holistically managing the health and wellness of individuals in outpatient settings remains Glen Cove Hospital’s mission.
