Ellen and Daniel Crown

Creating a better hospital experience for children has been Dan and Ellen Crown’s passion for more than 20 years. The parents of four have supported many areas of Lenox Hill Hospital over their history but describe the generous gift they made to establish the Crown Family Pediatric Center in 2013 as a ‘privilege.’

“Lenox Hill Hospital is like a family,” said Ellen. Matching the feelings engendered by the dedicated doctors and nurses to the hospital’s surroundings was a deeply personal gift for the Crowns.

Their extraordinary generosity created a center with rooming-in capabilities for patients, a play area with child-sized furniture, nature-themed art and a new centralized nursing unit.

In addition to their philanthropic support, the couple also dedicate their time to improving health care on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Ellen helps plan The Constellation Gala every fall, working closely with the florist and venue to assure a wonderful evening for Northwell Health’s supporters. Dan advises hospital leadership as a member of Northwell’s Western Region Executive Council and serves on the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell’s Joint Board of Overseers. Dan and Ellen have remained actively involved with Lenox Hill Hospital for more than twenty years.

Ellen and Dan Crown’s friends describe them as people with “really big hearts” who are “extremely generous,” but even those descriptions fall short of describing the difference they’ve made for Manhattan’s children.
